Pokémon Pairings
One thing you’ll learn about me is that I go through obsessions. When I like a fandom, I really like a fandom. Right now, I am on a Pokémon craze. Go to any PokéForum and you`ll see one thing; discussions about shipping.
Ship-ping verb when you support two fictional character as a pairing, almost always a romantic one.
I am going to go through the four main pairings of Pokémon.
Advanceshipping
May and Ash, Satoshi and Haruka. I believe that there were some real feelings between these two, but it was mostly on May`s side, because let`s face it; Ash is oblivious. However, as time went on, I think their relationship twisted into a more teacher/student dynamic. As even more time went on, I think May began having feelings for a certain green-haired coordinator. One thing to be noted about this pairing is that it has some amazing fanart. Especially by Suzushiroya Suzuko, even though I do not ship this pairing, I might end up doing a whole post on Suzuko`s art.
Pokeshipping
Misty and Ash, Satoshi and Kasumi. I think this pairing definitely has the most evidence of them all. They met during the first seasons of Pokémon, back when the Japanese had more influence on it, which led to more romance in the series. Anyway, I definitely ship this pairing. I have forever been an original Pokéfan, and never quite got into the whole new generation stuff. Misty and Ash went through A LOT during their journeys and I think they were just different enough for there to be an attraction, and just similar enough for compatibility. Unfortunately, they met early in their journey which meant that they would inevitably be forced to go on different paths, which is what happened. Ash continued on to be a Pokémon Master, and Misty went to take care of the family gym.
Pearlshipping
Ash and Dawn, Satoshi and Hikari. There isn’t much I can say on this pairing because, well, I never watched the Sinnoh region. However, I watched a few choice episodes that showed Ash and Dawn showing a romantic bond. Even so, I think Ash grew closest to Dawn, out of all the girls, but only on a friendship level. There were much too similar to ever be anything more than friends. At least in my opinion. I will say this, however, Dawn is definitely the prettiest of all the Pokégirls.
Negaishipping
Iris and Ash, Satoshi and Iris. Again, not much can be said about this pairing because there hasn’t been many episodes in the Best Wishes (Black and White) series. From what I have seen though, I can`t say I would ever ship these two together. Not that I don`t think they might click, but because I don`t really like Iris. She seems somewhat interesting but… The Hair! Oh my, the hair. I will never be able to like the girl because of that. Which is really shallow, I know… But whatever.
